On Saturday 10 January Leicester Comedy Festival (LCF), one of the UK’s top comedy showcases, was launched with a gala event at De Montfort Hall. Attending on behalf of Equity were Midlands regional official, Ian Manborde, and Variety national officer, Mike Day.
Once again Equity has sponsored the festival which runs from 5-23 February and Equity staff will be present throughout to meet members, and provide advice and guidance on support for them from Equity, and to introduce non-members to the union.
Equity will be supporting the Circuit Breakers initiative for new and emerging talent. If you are performing at LCF for the first time please come along to the Equity stand at the first Circuit Breakers event on Saturday 15 February from 1:30pm in the Big Difference office, 68 High Street Leicester LE1 5YP
Please also come along to the Equity event as part of the Beyond a Joke discussion series during LCF. Our event is How to get paid in comedy and focuses on the good practice in moving away from non-paid work into the use of contracts to ensure you are paid properly, but also can gain Equity’s support if you are not paid, or your gig is cancelled. This event is Sunday 9 February from 4pm, and will be held in The Gallery, De Montfort University, Mill Lane, Leicester LE2 7PT
Commenting Ian Manborde, Equity Midlands Official, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring Leicester Comedy Festival (LCF). The LCF is a nationally important opportunity for comedians to showcase their talents, and a great source of work for our members.
"We are looking forward to meeting Equity members performing at LCF, and talking with the large number of new comedians performing for the their first time, and encouraging them to join Equity and benefit from the great range of services."
