Michael Crowley, Artistic Director, The Brutish Multitude Theatre, said “I'm delighted to have signed an Equity agreement for my theatre company, The Brutish Multitude. It is essential that performers receive decent pay and conditions; standards set by Equity protect the future of the arts. Theatre can have something important to say to audiences through its work, but also, how it treats its workers as well.”

It represents a positive step forward in demonstrating the value of professional performers working under a recognised union agreement. Performers working at Brutish theatre will benefit from an agreement that is working towards best practice in the industry.”

Formed in Heptonstall, West Yorkshire, in 2018, the Brutish Multitude theatre company began with a focus on historical plays. Their initial production, based on the 1643 English Civil War battle, the Battle of Heptonstall, played before local communities including at Halifax Minster. Later work has appeared across the Calder Valley and Halifax Playhouse.
