Equity’s Student and Young Member Bursary Scheme is funded by the union to demonstrate solidarity with younger members of the creative workforce entering the entertainment industry. Each year, bursaries of £500 each are awarded to two Equity Student Members in their final year of study and two Full Members of Equity aged 18-30. The bursaries assist Equity Student and Young Members with the costs of beginning a career in the entertainment sector.
Student Bursary recipient Izzy Sniezek said: “The help and support this will provide is tremendous, especially in these uncertain times with regards to both the arts and the cost of living. Every little helps, and I am thankful for the support provided to me by Equity.”
Young Member Bursary recipient Sarah Emiris said: “Recently, life has been one crisis after the other. This award could not have come at a better time. I am over the moon and more than anything relieved. Thank you, Equity.”
2022 recipient Georgia Heriot received the bursary as an Equity Student Member and said: “Receiving the Equity Student Bursary meant that I was able to do things that previously wouldn’t have even been in my scope. This industry is unfortunately a pricey one to get into and this bursary provided me with a means to create a start, that I wouldn’t have been able to do without. I am very thankful for what I have been able to do with the bursary’s help.”
Equity’s Student and Young Member Bursary Scheme will next open for applications in summer 2024. For further information, please email students@equity.org.uk.
