Mae’r diwydiannau creadigol yng Nghymru yn cynhyrchu dros £4 biliwn yn flynyddol ac yn cefnogi mwy na 80,000 o swyddi, ond mae perfformwyr a gweithwyr creadigol Cymraeg yn dal i wynebu rhwystrau i welededd a chyfleoedd. Gyda thoriadau cyllid a thirlun diwydiant sy'n esblygu, mae'n bwysicach nag erioed i sicrhau bod lleisiau'r Gymraeg yn cael eu clywed, eu gwerthfawrogi, ac yn cael lle i ffynnu. 

The creative industries in Wales generate over £4 billion annually and support more than 80,000 jobs, yet Welsh language performers and creatives still face barriers to visibility and opportunity. With funding cuts and an evolving industry landscape, it's more important than ever to ensure that Welsh-language voices are heard, valued, and given space to thrive. 

Mae Rhwydwaith Gymraeg Equity yn ofod newydd i berfformwyr a phobl greadigol sy’n gweithio neu eisiau gweithio trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg. Yn agored i holl aelodau Equity ar draws y DU, bydd y rhwydwaith hwn yn cynnig llwyfan i gysylltu, rhannu profiadau, a gwthio am well cyfleoedd ar gyfer gwaith Cymraeg yn y diwydiant adloniant. 

Equity’s Welsh Language Network is a new space for performers and creatives who work or want to work through the medium of Welsh. Open to all Equity members across the UK, this network will offer a platform to connect, share experiences, and push for better opportunities for Welsh-language work in the entertainment industry. When speaking to Equity members during our negotiations on the TAC/S4C agreement and about S4C's digital focus and expanding online services, it became obvious that our members needed a Welsh Language Network. 

Mae castio yn y Theatr, Teledu a Ffilm Gymraeg yn parhau i fod yn bwnc llosg yn ystod ymweliadau gweithle. Mae llawer o’n haelodau’n awyddus i weld gwelliannau yn y system bresennol i’w gwneud yn decach a chreu mwy o gyfleoedd i siaradwyr Cymraeg a dysgwyr yng Nghymru. Mae yna aelodau yn gweithio trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg sydd wedi eu lleoli ar draws y DU. Bydd y Rhwydwaith yn lle i drafod a rhannu syniadau am yr hyn sy’n digwydd ym mhobman o ddawns, syrcas a’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn Wrecsam i Wyliau Comedi Machynlleth ac Aberystwyth a chymaint o feysydd eraill yn y diwydiant. Gyda chyhoeddiad Michael Sheen o’r Theatr Genedlaethol Gymreig a thoriadau cyllid enfawr ar draws y celfyddydau yng Nghymru, nid yw’r angen am ofod a rhwydwaith pwrpasol lle mae ein haelodau yn teimlo eu bod yn perthyn ac yn gallu trefnu yn yr iaith y maent fwyaf cyfforddus yn ei defnyddio erioed wedi bod yn bwysicach. 

Casting in Welsh language Theatre, TV, and Film continues to be a hot topic during workplace visits. Many of our members are eager to see improvements in the current system to make it fairer and create more opportunities for Welsh-speakers and learners in Wales. There are members working through the medium of Welsh that are based all over the UK. The Network will be a place to discuss and share ideas on what’s happening everywhere from dance, circus and the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham to the Machynlleth and Aberystwyth Comedy Festivals and so many other areas of the industry. With Michael Sheen's announcement of the Welsh National Theatre and huge funding cuts across the arts in Wales, the need for a dedicated space and network where our members feel they belong and can organise in the language they are most comfortable using has never been more crucial. 

Does dim digon wedi newid ers i Gwynfor Evans fynd ar streic newyn yn 1962 i frwydro dros sianel deledu Gymraeg. Bryd hynny, roedd yn mynnu llwyfan i’r Gymraeg yn y byd cyhoeddus. Heddiw, rydym yn dal i frwydro am gydnabyddiaeth a chefnogaeth i waith Cymraeg yn y celfyddydau. Gyda dros 860,000 o siaradwyr Cymraeg a’r iaith yn dal statws swyddogol yng Nghymru, mae gwaith Cymraeg yn rhan hanfodol o’r celfyddydau, o raglennu S4C i gynyrchiadau theatr Cymraeg.  

Not enough has changed since Gwynfor Evans went on hunger strike in 1962, fighting for a Welsh language TV channel. Back then, he was demanding a platform for the Welsh language in the public sphere. Today, we're still fighting for recognition and support for Welsh language work in the arts. With over 860,000 Welsh speakers and the language holding official status in Wales, Welsh language work is a vital part of the arts, from S4C programming to Welsh language theatre productions.

Mae eleni yn argoeli i fod yn drawsnewidiol i Equity yng Nghymru wrth i ni ehangu ein presenoldeb ar draws y wlad. Trwy feithrin ymdeimlad o gymuned, gallwn gydweithio i greu diwydiant mwy cynhwysol a theg. Cynhelir cyfarfodydd yn Gymraeg, gyda chyfieithu ar gael i'r rhai sy'n magu hyder neu'n dysgu'r iaith. P’un a ydych chi’n weithiwr proffesiynol sefydledig neu newydd ddechrau, dyma’ch lle i leisio’ch barn a helpu i lunio dyfodol gwaith Cymraeg.  

Equity's ongoing campaign to save the Welsh National Opera chorus demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting jobs and preserving Welsh cultural heritage. This year promises to be transformative for Equity in Wales as we expand our presence across the country. By fostering a sense of community, we can work together to create a more inclusive and equitable industry. Meetings will be held in Welsh, with translation available for those building confidence or learning the language. Whether you’re an established professional or just starting out, this is your space to make your voice heard and help shape the future of Welsh language work.
