From Resilience to Resistance in the performing arts and entertainment industry
A two-day training course for building worker power
- Why are prices rising faster than wages?
- Who is making money from your work?
- How can you, as creative workers, regain control of your working lives?
If you’ve ever looked at your pay packet and thought ‘that’s not enough to get by,’ you’re not alone. The last forty years has seen one of the largest redistributions of wealth – from working people, to industry bosses – in the history of our country. All the while, successive governments have restricted your power as workers.
This has led to your pay being squeezed as inflation skyrockets. Productions are cut shorter whilst you’re forced to do more unpaid work. Dignity and respect in the workplace is sacrificed in the name of ‘efficiency’ and value for money. Producers, engagers and funders will tell you it’s just the way things are. But there is nothing natural or inevitable about this and you don’t have to accept it.
But how do you challenge the status quo and win?
