New Equity trustees announced

A new group of Equity trustees have been confirmed by the February Council.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new group of Equity trustees, confirmed by the February Council.

Equity’s trustees are ambassadors for the union, and hold some specific responsibilities under the Rules for holding property and other investments in the union’s name. Although the decisions about investment rest with the elected Council, becoming a trustee is a mark of commitment to Equity’s industrial mission, good governance, and place in the performing arts & entertainment industries.

As of February 2024, the trustees are:

  • Alan Davies
  • Dame Judi Dench CH DBE
  • Adrian Lester CBE
  • Imelda Staunton CBE
  • Ruby Turner MBE
  • Johnny Worthy

These trustees represent a variety of backgrounds and activist paths within the union – and also a broad set of the professions we represent – from comedians, to singers, as well as actors and musical theatre artists.

We are delighted to welcome Ruby, Imelda, Adrian, and Alan, who join Dame Judi and Johnny Worthy who are longstanding Trustees. We remain grateful to Dame Judi and Johnny for their continued dedication.

Huge thanks go to Penelope Wilton, Timothy West and Malcolm Sinclair who have stepped down as trustees, roles they have held after serving the union in a variety of ways from President, Equity Council, negotiating working parties, and being Equity Deputy on the productions where they work.

Trustees have no fixed length of term, and remain in office until they resign or the Equity Council appoints a new trustee.

On behalf of the Council and Equity’s 50,000 members, I want to thank the trustees, who are respected as both some of the greatest artists of our time, as well as being committed trades unionists. They reflect solid experience of the professions and industries we fight for, as well as being faces who represent the industry we wish to build. I look forward to working with them, along with Equity’s President and lay officers.
